'RSS for Dummies': Congress Tweet on Day of Pranab Mukherjee's Address to Sangh Cadre
Pranab Mukherjee shares the stage with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and other leaders at RSS headquarters.
New Delhi: Minutes before the former President Pranab Mukherjee’s keynote address at RSS' conclave in Nagpur, the Congress has launched a barrage of tweets attacking the Sangh.

In a tweet that carried a video titled 'RSS for Dummies', just when TV channels were telecasting the innauguration of RSS' "Tritiya Varsh Varg" function, the Congress mocked the saffron organisation for colluding with the British during the pre-Independence period.

The one minute long clip made several claims in an attempt to launch a counterattack on the nationalist credentials of the RSS.

"RSS founder, Hedgewar ordered the Sangh not to participate in Satyagraha...Sangh leaders encouraged members ot join the British Civic Guard...RSS' non-participation in India's independence was complimented by their British Masters...The sangh opposed our national flag..." it said.

The Congress followed it up with another tweet sharing an article expanding on the claims it had made earlier. Pranab Mukherjee has earlier received flak from senior Congress leaders like Ahmed Patel and from his own daughter, who in a message addressed to her father on Twitter said that no matter what he said on the podium, the right wing was bound to make much of his gesture of accepting RSS' invitation and sharing stage with its chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Some media outlets have claimed that it was Sonia Gandhi, who directly asked its leaders, including Sharmishtha Mukherjee, to voice their opinion against Pranab Mukherjee publicly.

Mukherjee’s address is likely to be the most watched keynote speech delivered at RSS “Tritiya Varsh Varg” event, ever. Mukherjee has admitted, as some newspapers have earlier reported, that many people have tried to get in touch with him after news about him addressing the RSS event was reported. “Whatever I have to say…I will say at Nagpur,” Mukherjee has been quoted saying.
