New Delhi: Ahead of Madhya Pradesh assembly elections later this year, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said on Wednesday that they are open to an alliance.

“We are open to a tie-up in Madhya Pradesh. If we can stitch up an alliance, it will be good. Else, we will go alone,” Yadav said in Lucknow.

Sensing the possibility of a win, the Congress is all out on the ground to rope in as many opposition parties as it can in its fight against the BJP in MP.

A pre-poll alliance or an opposition 'mahagathbandhan' like that in Kairana looks like a strong possibility with both Congress and BSP sending feelers to each other. If all goes well, Samajwadi Party could ride the opposition bandwagon, along with other regional players.

Opposition, and especially the idea of a ‘mahagathbandhan’ against BJP, got wings after a successful run in Gorakhpur and Phulpur bypolls, followed by the recent Kairana victory.

Meanwhile, after Yoga guru Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurved announced that it is pulling out of its proposed Rs 6,000-crore mega food processing project along the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi party chief said, "I didn't give the project for the sake of Ramdev, but to bring in better opportunities for farmers in West UP. The food industries would have directly purchased from the farmer."

Taking a jibe at Modi government's push for 'one nation one poll' proposal, Samajwadi Party chief challenged BJP to introduce it in 2019. "2019 se tayiaari kariye hum bhi aapke saath hain is mudde par (start preparations for simultaneous elections in 2019 itself. We are with you)."
