With the opposition not relenting from its position of creating uproar in Parliament over demand for External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's resignation, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Monday suspended at least 25 members of the Congress-led Opposition for disrupting the house.

Ordering the suspension of several Congress leaders, including Deepender Singh Hooda and Gaurav Gogoi, for five days, the Lok Sabha Speaker blamed the members for causing "grave disorder".

Mahajan questioned why the members of the Congress-led opposition were displaying placards and storming the well of the House despite repeated warnings.

Asserting that her patience was being tested by the opposition parties, the Lok Sabha Speaker also adjourned the House for the day.

Those suspended by the Speaker included Dipender Singh Hooda, Akhil Gogoi, MK Raghavan, KH Muniyappa and KC Venugopal.

Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also hit out at the Congress party, asking it to "introspect" and "let Parliament function".

Claiming that while Congress was adamant on resignation of BJP leaders, other opposition parties wanted discussion, Jaitley said, "If most of the parties want discussion, Congress should also think on its attitude towards Parliament."

He further accused the Congress of holding Parliament ransom.
