Steer clear of controversies, do not make any provocative statement, BJP tells party leaders
Venkaiah Naidu told the members that provocative statements are being used by the anti-BJP forces to deflect the attention from Narendra Modi's development agenda.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party asked its leaders to steer clear of controversies and not to make any provocative statement in Parliament. The MPs were cautioned during the BJP Parliamentary Board meet which was held to discuss the agenda for the day and to strategise the rest of the Winter Session of Parliament.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu told the members that provocative statements are being used by the anti-BJP forces to deflect the attention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's development agenda.

"Venkaiah Naidu ji said we should be careful with words and should steer clear from controversies," said BJP leader Muktar Abbas Naqvi after the meet.

The meeting comes at a time when the opposition is targeting the BJP in Parliament on the issue of intolerance. The government is treading very carefully as it wants to pass the crucial Goods and Service Tax Bill in the ongoing session.

Party leaders also discussed the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections, the intolerance debate as also other political debates.

The "constructive discussion" between Modi and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was also flagged in the meeting. "We have all hopes that developmental issues will be discussed and passed," Naqvi said, apparently referring to the GST Bill.
