Patna: After going through a torrid time over the past few weeks, particularly after the CBI launched raids against Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family, dust seems to be settling on the future of the ruling Mahagathbandhan in Bihar.

In a meeting between Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, the two leaders reached a "consensus".

The compromise-formula, according to sources, will not require Tejwashwi to resign from the post of deputy CM, something RJD patriarch Lalu Prasad has been saying from the day this controversy erupted.

The meeting, which lasted 40 minutes, ended on a "positive note" and JD (U) conceded to RJD's demand that Tejashwi will not resign, a source claimed. The deputy chief minister also gave his explanation over the allegations that he faces right now.

However, when Labour Minister Vijay Prakash was asked about JD (U)'s demand for Tejashwi's resignation, he told News18 that the two leaders didn't have any such discussion. "They just concentrated on development agenda."

It is learnt that Congress party brokered peace between the two parties, and CM Nitish Kumar might travel to Delhi on July 20 to meet Sonia Gandhi.

Sources claimed that both JD (U) and RJD will soon make their stand clear on the ongoing confusion.

JD (U) and RJD, the erstwhile bitter rivals who joined hands just before the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections to thwart BJP from gaining ground, have been at loggerheads, casting doubts over the future of Mahagathbandhan. Congress is the third partner in the ruling grand alliance.

Tejashwi also attended a cabinet meeting on Tuesday after which the two leaders met each other in Nitish's chamber. Tejashwi's brother Tej Pratap Yadav and state Congress chief and minister Ashok Choudhary, too, were present in the CM's room.

The Deputy Chief Minister has been in the eye of a storm ever since the CBI filed an FIR against him in the land-for-hotels case. While Nitish Kumar had maintained that Tejashwi and Lalu come clean on the grave allegations levelled against them, Lalu was clear in saying there was no question of Tejashwi tendering his resignation.

Tejashwi had on Saturday skipped a government function in which he had to share dais with the chief minister.

The deputy CM, however, arrived for the meeting along with Tej Pratap Yadav in the same car.

Earlier, many RJD ministers assembled at the residence of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi and moved together for the Cabinet meeting from there in a motorcade.
