UP Budget 2018: CM Yogi Adityanath Proposes Rs 2,757 Crore for Minority Welfare Schemes

Lucknow: While the BJP is often attacked for its stand on minorities, the Yogi Adityanath government in its annual budget on Friday allocated Rs 2,757 crore for minorities’ development and welfare schemes in the state.

Finance Minister Rajesh Khanna, while announcing BJP government’s second budget in the state, said that of Rs 2,757 crore, Rs 404 crore has been proposed under the modernisation scheme of Arabi-Farsi madrasas, Rs 486 crore for grant to Arabic Schools and Rs 215 crore for permanently recognized Arabi Farsi madrasas of ‘Aalia Level’.

State minister Mohsin Raza said that UP government has increased the budget for minorities’ welfare by Rs 282 crore, which is a welcome step and shows government’s commitment towards its slogan of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ (development for all).

For backward class welfare schemes, a provision of Rs 1,705 crore has been made in the budget. Additionally, Rs 200 crore has been proposed for the marriages of the girls of backward classes, while Rs 551 crore has been kept under the Fee Reimbursement Scheme for students belonging to backward classes. The self-employment schemes, implemented by the UP Scheduled Castes Finance and development corporation, will get Rs 100 crore from the state budget and Rs 66 crore has been given for running government industrial training institutes for the youth belonging to scheduled castes.

An amount of Rs 575 crore has also been allocated under the Pension Scheme for persons with disabilities.

Meanwhile, the Yogi Adityanath government has proposed an amount of Rs 7,858 crore for the development and welfare schemes for the general category and scheduled castes.

Also, an amount of Rs 250 crore has been proposed for the ‘Mukhya Mantri Samuhik Vivah Yojna’ for marriage of girls belonging to the families of all sections subsisting below the poverty line. Further, an amount of Rs 121 crore has been allocated for the marriage of girls from poor families of scheduled castes and Rs 82 crore for general category.

Among other welfare programmes, Rs 500 crore has been given for the National Family Benefit Scheme and Rs 2,560 crore has been allocated for Old Age and Kisan Pension Scheme for eligible persons over 60 years of age of all sections.
