New Delhi: After almost a month of voting, split into seven phases in the country's biggest state Uttar Pradesh, Assembly elections are drawing to a close.

The state witnessed upbeat campaigning by all the political parties, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who camped in the holy city of Varanasi for three days, holding three consecutive roadshows.

However, crime and politics have remained inextricable, and in Uttar Pradesh, Politicians with criminal antecedents usually carry their track record as a "badge of honour".
