New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his first address to BJP MPs in the ongoing Winter Session called for promotion of youth both within and outside the party.

At the beginning of the meeting on Wednesday morning, PM Modi was felicitated by BJP president Amit Shah for the party’s twin victories in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

The PM’s message at the BJP parliamentary party meeting comes close on the heels of 47-year-old Rahul Gandhi assuming the leadership of the Congress party and two days after counting of votes in a bitterly contested Gujarat elections.

In Gujarat elections, the BJP faced a tough challenge from young emerging caste leaders who aligned with the Congress.

The PM while addressing the BJP parliamentary party meeting this morning turned emotional recalling his association with former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee even as he urged party MPs to work on booth level management to win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for strengthening BJP at booth levels across India for victory,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar told reporters.

Staving off the stiff challenge from the Congress in its bastion, BJP’s tally in the Gujarat state assembly this time dwindled to double digits.

The party well entrenched in the western state seems to have been buffeted by a better booth management. Prime Minister’s call to strengthen BJP at booth level is seen as an attempt to underscore the point to MPs preparing to face the electorate in 2019.

The BJP has also been assiduously trying to woo voters born after 2000, who would be eligible to exercise their franchise for the first time in the next general elections.
