Atalanta started this season where it left off the last one by easing past Torino 42 in Serie A on Saturday.

MILAN: Atalanta started this season where it left off the last one by easing past Torino 4-2 in Serie A on Saturday.

Alejandro Papu Gomez scored one goal and set up another two. Atalanta was one of the top teams in the second half of last season, finishing third in Serie A and reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

This was Atalantas first match of its delayed new season. Inter Milan was also playing its first game later, at home to Fiorentina.

Andrea Belotti gave Torino a surprise lead in the 11th minute but Gomez levelled just two minutes later with a wonderful curler into the bottom right corner.

Gomez then set up goals for Luis Muriel and Hans Hateboer as Atalanta threatened to run away with the match, just as it did in a 7-0 victory at Torino last season.

But Belotti pulled one back two minutes from halftime, heading home Mrgim Vojvodas cross.

Marten de Roon restored Atalantas two-goal advantage nine minutes after the break, slotting Muriels low cross into the bottom left corner.

TOP SCORER

Last seasons top goal-scorer in Serie A got off the mark in his first match as Ciro Immobile helped Lazio win at Cagliari 2-0.

Immobile scored Lazios second in the 74th. Adam Marui gathered the ball on the halfway line and sprinted down the left flank before rolling it back for Immobile to drive into the bottom right corner.

Marusic also provided the assist for Manuel Lazzari to score Lazios opener in the fourth.

COMEBACK

Defender Luca Caldirola scored twice as newly promoted Benevento fought back from two goals down to win at Sampdoria 3-2.

Gaetano Letizia netted the winner for the visitors two minutes from time.

Fabio Quagliarella scored for the 16th consecutive season when he netted the opener, and Omar Colley doubled Samps lead 10 minutes later.
