The two sides played out 1-1 draw with ATK Mohun Bagan scoring an important away goal when the two sides met in the first leg of the semi-final at theGMC Athletic Stadium in Bambolim on Saturday. ATK led the entire course of the match since David Williams scored for the defending champions on the 35th minute but Idrissa Sylla grabbed an all-important equaliser in the dying moments of stoppage time for NorthEast to level the scoring.
Bagan’s defence has been leaky over the last three games as they have conceded five times compared to 15 throughout the entire league stage. For Khalid Jamil’s NorthEast United, it will be their first-ever final if they can get past Habas’ ATK Mohun Bagan.
With experience and an away goal in the bank, Bagan would be going in as slight favourites into the game, but NorhtEast will take hope from the fact that they have been unbeaten under Jamil and would hope to continue the streak. Also, the morale will be high for the NorthEast boys after grabbing a late goal in the first leg.
The winner of the game will face Mumbai City FC in the final on Saturday at the Fatorda Stadium.
