Atletico Madrid Tries to Grab La Liga Lead as They Face Valladolid

Atltico Madrid hosts Valladolid with the first chance to lead La Liga points table.

MADRID: Atltico Madrid’s first chance to lead the Spanish league comes on Saturday when it hosts Valladolid.

A seventh league victory in a row would put Atltico two point ahead of Real Sociedad, the current leader which has played two more games than Atltico and visits Alavs on Sunday.

Atltico is already six points ahead of defending champion Real Madrid with a game in hand, and nine points in front of Barcelona, which it beat two weeks ago for the first time in more than a decade in the league. Atlticos next league match will be the derby against Madrid, when the gap to the city rival could reach as much as 12 points.
