“I am happy to come to India again and hope to give my best performance at the India open. I just want to enjoy my game here and hope to win the title,” said the former world number 1.

This is the second time in the last couple of months that Marin has touched down in India and her game is helping the world number three win over the partisan crowd easily.

After my match against PV Sindhu at the 2016 Rio Olympics, I have many fans here in India and I really appreciate their support. During the PBL, which ever city I played in, I felt tremendous support from the fans," said Marin.

Marin also spoke of her fondness for Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sidhu but she also warned the world number five that they may be good friends but once they take to the court, it will be a different ball-game altogether.

I share a good relationship with PV Sindhu off the court. But as you know inside the court everyone in an opponent but we share a good relationship,” quipped Marin.

The Spanish champion also spoke about her injury horror that forced her to skip the German Open 2017, while she at the All-England Championships, Marin could only reach the quarters.

“I suffered and injury before the 2016 Rio Olympics and since then I have been trying my best to recover from it. After the Olympics, I aggravated my injury and it was very painful for me. It was very difficult period for me as I had to skip many tournaments. But I am fine now and am really happy to be here in India and want to do well at the tournament,” said Marin.
