New Delhi: With less than 200 days to go for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, tournament Director Javier Ceppi has said that preparations have entered the final stages and the football world body is confident of a good show in India.

India is hosting its biggest-ever FIFA tournament, which is set to be played from October 6-28 across six cities — Kolkata, Kochi, New Delhi, Mumbai, Guwahati & Goa. India won the hosting rights for the World Cup by beating stiff competitions from Azerbaijan, Ireland and Uzbekistan in December 2013 and since then, AIFF alongwith FIFA are trying their best to ready the country for the grand tournament.

"We are very confident that the preparations are going in the right direction. In terms of infrastructure, things are moving along and we are hoping that everything will be ready soon.We are also deep into the operational planning, which is a very critical phase and we hope that everything falls into place for us to deliver a very good event," said Ceppi in an exclusive interview with News18 Sports.

FIFA’s head of planning, Jaime Yarza had earlier stated that the World Cup will leave a legacy behind that will help the sport grow in this region. Ceppi too agreed with Yarza’s remarks and further said that the tournament will help in catching the imagination of the young Indian kids.

"We are doing Mission XI Million where we are engaging 15,000 schools and 11 million kids. This will help in changing the face of the sport in the country. It will extend the base of kids playing the sport, and has the potential of changing it as well," said Ceppi.

A fortnight ago, FIFA unveiled the volunteer program for the uncoming World Cup and Ceppi revealed that FIFA was surprised by the response they have received so far.

"We were not expecting such as a response and it has exceeded our expectations. It is a good sign because it shows how important this tournament is for the football fans of India. They all play a role and we would like everybody to be a part of the World Cup," said Ceppi.

The draw of the tournament will be held on July 7 and so far 11 countries, apart from hosts India, have secured a place for the tournament.
