Barcelona: Spain's Andres Iniesta admitted that he thought he was offside when he collected the ball and scored the winning goal in the World Cup final against the Netherlands on Sunday.

The 26-year-old playmaker told reporters in Barcelona that he thought he was offside when he received the assist from teammate Cesc Fabregas.

Though, Iniesta will be remembered for his match-winning 116th minute goal, but his contribution to Spain's first World Cup triumph was far greater than just that late strike.

The tireless midfielder was the creative force alongside Xavi in all seven of Spain's matches, scoring two goals and winning three man-of-the-match awards to give Spain their first ever World Cup.
