He was ranked 31st at the halfway mark, one rank below compatriot Pravin Jadhav. He has however, made recovery in the second half and have moved up the lader.
Earlier, women’s world number one archer Deepika Kumari finishes 9th in the ranking round with 663 points out of a possible 720. Deepika who was seventh in the second-last round could score only 54 points in the last set that saw her drop two places. It was a mixed-bag performance by the 27-year-old, she was sitting comfortably in the fourth position at the end of the first half but failed to continue that in the second half that saw her drop down the points table. She will face Bhutan’s Karma in the next round. Meanwhile, Korea’s An San topped the table by breaking the Olympic Record of 673 points set by Lina Herasimenko of Ukraine back in 1996 by scoring 680 points in the ranking round. All top four finishers have scored more than Herasimenko.
Boxing great MC Mary Kom and Indian hockey team skipper Manpreet Singh will be the flag-bearers at Japan National Stadium.

A Russian archer recovered after fainting in the Tokyo heat during a qualifying Olympic round on Friday as a heatwave pushed coaches and staff to huddle under trees for shade.
Svetlana Gomboeva collapsed as she checked her final scores and required assistance from staff and teammates who put bags of ice on her head to cool her down.
“It turns out that she couldn’t stand a whole day out in the heat," coach Stanislav Popov told reporters.

Unvaccinated in Tokyo!
The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee said about 100 of the 613 U.S. athletes descending on Tokyo for the Olympics are unvaccinated.
Medical director Jonathan Finnoff says 567 of the American athletes had filled out their health histories as they prepared for the trip. He estimated 83% had replied they were vaccinated.
Finnoff says 83% is a substantial number and the committee is quite happy with it.
Nationally, 56.3% of Americans have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
The International Olympic Committee estimates that around 85% of residents of the Olympic Village are vaccinated. That’s based that on what each country’s Olympic committee reports but is not an independently verified number.

Tokyo Olympic organizers have reported 25 new COVID-19 cases. Three of them are athletes that were announced on Thursday.
There are 13 athletes among the 110 Olympic-accredited people that have tested positive in Japan since July 1.
Three media workers coming to Japan from abroad were included in the latest update.

Tokyo Olympics Archery: Disappointing performance from the male archers in Tokyo Olympics. Despite getting off to a good start, Atanu Das lost his way and finished the ranking round in the 35th position. Pravin Rai made a good comeback as he finished in the 31st position. Tarundeep Rai finished two places worse than Atanu.
Kim Je Deok of Korea topped the charts with 688 points followed by USA's Brady Ellison with 682 points.

All three archers now have six more rounds to make ammends and finish in the top half at least. The point diffrence between Pravin Rai, Atanu Das and 10th-placed Salsabila of Indonesia is just eight points at the moment. So, there is a chance that Indian archers catch up.
Atanu Das Slips to 31st Spot After First Half
Tokyo Olympics: Atanu Das after starting on a high has produced some uninspiring performances and currently he finds himself in the 31st spot, one behind compatriot Pravin Jadhav. Both have 329 points and are trailing Korea's Kim Je Deok by 16 points. Meanwhile, Tarundeep Rai finds himself further down in the points table, 45, with 323 points to his name.

Overall he has 220 points to his name which is 7 less than table topper Woojin Kim of Korea. Pravin Jadhav is right after Atanu with 219 points, meanwhile, Tarundeep Rai is in 48th spot with 214 points.
Tokyo Olympics 2020: Indian Olympic Association Secretary General Rajeev Mehta has confirmed changes in the athletes list for the opening ceremony to be held later today. Paddlers Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra have decided against attending the ceremony and they have been replaced by tennis player Ankita Raina.

Atanu Das has been assigned target 20A, while Pravin Jadhav will target 22A. Tarundeep Rai has been assigned target 24A.

PV Sindhu said she misses crowds at the stadium but has become used to it now.
“The performance was good and bad, a little in between I would say,” Kumari said. “I don’t why I wasn’t too good, but I’m planning to control my stuff so that I can play with it.”
“I want to show my best performance here, and I’ll shoot it 100% in the next round,” she said. “It’s good [to be here] but, at the same time, I just want to succeed.”
The Indian mixed team will open its campaign against eighth-ranked Chinese Taipei, and should it overcome the first-round hurdle, top-seed Korea would be waiting in the last-eight. Likewise, the Indian men’s team might run into top-seed Korea, who got a bye into the quarters, should they beat eighth-ranked Kazakhstan in the opening round.
In the round of 64 Tarundeep Rai will face Oleksii Hunbin of Ukraine while Atanu Das has to overcome Yu-Cheng Deng of Chinese Taipei before possibly running into Jinhyek Oh of Korea. Pravin Jadhav will take on World No. 2 Galsan Bazarzhapov of Russia in Round of 64 and with possibly World No.1 Ellison Brady of the USA waiting for him in Round of 32.
South Korean archers took the top places in qualification on Friday, with one breaking an Olympic record that had stood for 25 years, as the country’s women archers take aim at the longest gold medal streak in the team event at the Games.
All 128 archers, 64 women and 64 men, shoot a qualifying round for the individual event. They total their points scores, up to a maximum of 720, and are ranked from top to bottom at the end of the round. Each one’s position after the ranking round becomes their seed for matchplay.
