New Delhi: Young Indian tennis sensation Ramkumar Ramanathan caused the upset of his life as he thrashed Dominic Thiem in straight sets to progress into the quarters of the Antalya Open in Turkey on Tuesday.

Ramkumar beat top seed Thiem 6-3, 6-2 in just an hour to progress into the next round.

The enormity of the defeat can be measured from the rankings of the two stars. While Ramkumar is ranked 222 in the world in latest ATP rankings, Thiem is one of the best players in the world and is ranked number 8.

"I worked really hard for this. Thank you to the crowd for coming out and cheering. I like the grass. Courts are fast. I took my chances and it worked out. I’m having a great time here and thanks to all the organisers," Ramkumar was quoted as saying by the Indian Express after his scintillating victory.

Ramkumar will now face Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus in the quarters.
