Saina Nehwal Shares Teaser of Her Biopic Starring Parineeti Chopra | Watch

Parineeti Chopra will be playing the titular role in Sania Nehwal's biopic.

Parineeti Chopra is set to play the titular character in the upcoming biopic titled Saina. She is essaying the role of badminton star Saina Nehwal in the film directed by Amole Gupte. The badminton champion took to social media to share the official teaser. Sharing the post on her Twitter account on March 4, Saina wrote, “Always makes me proud to see my national flag soar high!”

The teaser highlights the journey of the badminton champ’s life. It takes you through her career right from her training days in her childhood. Parineeti as Saina starts talking about how half of the Indian population comprises females who get married by the age of 18. Usually the story ends there, however, she decided to pick the sword in place of a pan and ladle. She said she never got bothered by her opponents as her game was always simple, i.e. to beat the opponent.

The clip shows how the parents and coach of the star encouraged her to win five medals in Commonwealth Games, to be the first Indian badminton player to win an Olympic medal, and become the only Indian woman badminton player to become world No. 1. The teaser moves on to show Saina playing for India in international tournaments.

Parineeti impressed as she dons the character of Saina. Her look is meticulously taken care of. She wears a mole on her cheek and also the chains around her neck to look convincing as Saina. The biographical sports film will also star Manav Kaul and Paresh Rawal. The movie is slated to release last year but was postponed due to the pandemic induced nationwide lockdown. The biopic based on the renowned badminton player’s journey will open in theatres on March 26.

Saina Nehwal is regarded as one of the most successful Indian sportspersons. The 30-year-old has been conferred with many honours including the Padma Bhushan, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and the Arjuna Award by the Government of India.
