WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns successfully defended his title against Daniel Bryan in the year’s third WWE pay-per-view, WWE Fastlane, where his WrestleMania 37 opponent Edge served as a special guest enforcer in an attempt to limit any outside interference. However, it was with Edge’s help that the Head fo the Table defeated Daniel Bryan.
The ‘Yes!’ Man dominated the champion in the beginning with quick strikes but Reigns eventually gained control of the match. The to-and-fro action continued as the action split to the outside of the ring. Then Bryan mistimed his Running Knee and hit the referee and incapacitated him. Reigns then connected a huge spear to get a near-fall from Edge.
Bryan took advantage of the distraction to lock on a Triangle hold, however, Jey Uso came to Reigns’ rescue and hit a superkick on both Bryan and Edge. Bryan neutralized Uso with a knee and he then errantly struck Edge with a chair strike meant for Reigns.
Bryan then applied the ‘Yes!’ Lock on Reigns and the champion appeared to tap out but neither the official nor Edge saw it. The Rated-R Superstar then bashed Bryan with the chair as Roman Reigns picked up the win.
