Apple reportedly has started to sell the so-called ‘Made in India’ iPhone SE units at select stores in Bengaluru. According to a report by The Times of India, the iPhone SE boxes have this imprinted on them: ‘Designed by Apple in California, Assembled in India’. The ‘assembled in India’ iPhone SE costs Rs 27,200 for the 32GB variant and Rs 37,200 for the 128 GB of the phone respectively.

The standard iPhone SE 32GB ‘Made in China’ is now selling for Rs 21,999 in the country. It was launched in India for a price of Rs 39,999 last year in April. While local assembly should ideally mean lower prices but for this iPhone SE there is no price advantage. It would be interesting to see how Apple reacts to ‘Made in India’ pricing in the future.
With the launch of the iPhone SE, Apple went back to its popular 4-inch size. The iPhone SE has the same four-inch screen as the iPhone 5S that Apple began selling in 2013. In fact, both iPhone SE and iPhone 5S look the same. However, it comes with a better A9 processor, 12-megapixel camera and a secure chip that allows the use of Apple Pay, the company's digital payment service.
