Durex wants to promote safe sex with a dedicated condom emoji

Ahead of the World AIDS Day on December 1, male contraceptive brand Durex, is calling for the creation of a dedicated symbol that represents safe sex.

New Delhi: After being declared Word of the Year, emojis are set to help promote safer sex.

Ahead of the World AIDS Day on December 1, male contraceptive brand Durex, is calling for the creation of a dedicated symbol that represents safe sex.

The company argues that while the existing set of emojis can help 'suggest sex', there is none that suggest 'safe sex.'

It says, "an official safe sex emoji will enable young people to overcome embarrassment around the discussion of safe sex, encourage conversation and raise awareness of the importance of using condoms in protecting against sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV and AIDS."

Therefore, Durex wants the official emoji makers to develop what it calls the 'Condom Emoji.' It has further asked people to use #CondomEmoji to make the demand heard.

From ordering pizzas to becoming a word, emojis sure have paved way for what is set to become the new language in digital communication.
