What do FC Barcelona players Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta have in common?

Oppo has come out with its second special edition phone with FC Barcelona. This version of the Oppo F1 Plus selfie phone comes in the colours of the famous football club. The regular version of the phone is priced at Rs 26,990 in India and the company plans to get this phone very soon to Indian consumers. Oppo, however, hasn't disclosed the price for the special edition yet, but they did send us the phone to us. Here's our review of the special FC Barcelona Edition Oppo F1 Plus.

What's Cool?

Gone are the dull white, grey and gold colour on the Oppo F1 Plus. This FC Barcelona edition is made specially for an FC Barcelona fan. The experience starts with the back of the phone. There is an 18K gold plated Barcelona logo at the back that is shiny and shouts out loud that it's a true fanboy.

The paint job on the phone is top-notch and you also get a silicone cover with the phone that has autographs of FC Barcelona superstars Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta.

The phone also comes with an FC Barcelona theme as well. And it makes the user interface surprisingly fun. It's a soccer theme with Barca colours and to top it the phone comes with the football club's anthem as a ringtone and message alert. And finally in the gallery there are pre-loaded high-res photos of Messi, Neymar, Suarez, Pique and Arda Turan. We coudn't find a use for them apart from using them as wallpapers for the home and the lock screen.

The specs on this phone are irrelevant, but that doesn't mean that it lacks firepower. Design wise the phone looks similar to the iPhone 6s Plus. It's a unibody-metal-designed smartphone that has dual-SIM compatibility and has a hybrid SIM card slot. It's a 4G LTE device with a 5.5 inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 4. It's bright, vivid and offers great viewing angles like any other AMOLED display.

The 2.0 GHz MediaTek MT6755 (Helio P10) packs in 8x Cortex-A53 cores and is backed by 4 GB of RAM. It delivers a seamless performance be it multitasking or gaming. There is 64 GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 128 GB.

The phones major USP is its front camera. This is one of those rare phones where the front camera packs in more megapixel power than the rear camera. The FC Barcelona Edition Oppo F1 Plus, just like the regular version, sports a 16 megapixel fixed-focus f/2.0 unit and it is perfect for selfie lovers. In fact, it’s better than what its competitors have on offer. The image results are good and the beauty mode also does not overdo things. There is also a fingerprint scanner on the phone that works decently.

What's Not So Cool?

The 2850 mAh battery gives you a decent battery backup of a day and the VOOC flash fast charging by Oppo is a tried and tested one that delivers. But you'll still be seen struggling with the battery on this phone.

The rear 13-megapixel camera is a f/2.2 unit that comes with Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF). It’s a decent camera that clicks images with ease. The missing bit is the optical image stabilisation on it. Also the camera app on the phone is quite similar to what you get on an iOS camera app. Which is a bit of a downer for us since it's a special edition phone.

Competition

Purely based on specs it competes with the likes of Xiaomi Mi 5, OnePlus 3 and the Le Max 2. But this is a special FC Barcelona Edition Oppo F1 Plus and for a FC Barcelona fan this phone has no competition.

Verdict

Oppo has launched this phone in the western markets, but it's still not available in India. The company plans to get this phone very soon and if they price it under Rs 30,000 this can be a treat to any FC Barcelona lover. It is definitely a collector's smartphone for any football fan. But then if you are not into football then this special edition might not be for you.
