The entry-level Microsoft Lumia 535 smartphone is attributed to the success of Microsoft phones in the country.

New Delhi: While the western markets are reigned by Android and iOS, Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform is surging in the Asian market, especially in Pakistan where sales of the Lumia smartphone tripled from the fourth quarter of last year to the first quarter of 2015.

comScore released latest figures which indicate that sales of Lumia phones are doing well in Pakistan, where Windows Phones is also the second most mobile OS, beating iOS.

According to Patrick Mercanton, head of marketing for Near-East, North Africa, Levant and Emerging Asia for Microsoft Mobile Devices, Microsoft owns more than 50 per cent of the feature phone market in Pakistan, which will help Lumia sales when it comes time for these consumers to upgrade to a smartphone, Phone Arena notes.

The entry-level Microsoft Lumia 535 smartphone is attributed to the success of Microsoft phones in the country. It is one of the leading smartphones in Pakistan and listed in the $100-$150 range. The handset is also the most popular Lumia model of all time in the region.

The phone boasts of powerful features at an affordable price, including a wide-angle 5 megapixel front facing camera, and a 5-inch display, which are the biggest selling points for the device’s success in the country.

Leveraging the success of the product, Microsoft’s next target in Pakistan will be in the B2B market where Lumia handsets can be used in conjunction with Microsoft's many business oriented products.

It is also expected that the software giant will offer the Microsoft Lumia 430 Dual SIM, which comes with Windows Phone 8.1 and will be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile. The affordability factor of Lumia phones will help Microsoft keep the Windows Phone platform remain relevant in Pakistan.
