Nvidia’s announcement of the new RTX range of graphics processors last year was a big one. Not only did it introduce a new architecture, but it also made use of Ray Tracing which adds a whole new layer of realism to games.

Currently there are three models in the lineup, however, rumours have been pointing out that the RTX 2060 is about to go official. Just like the GTX 1060, the new variant should target customers looking for something in the mid-segment, and considering the leaked information, it should be as good as the GTX 1070 Ti.

This essentially means that the RTX 2060 will not only be good enough to play casual games and major e-sports titles, but it could go on to serve well when playing most AAA titles.

According to a source, the new RTX 2060 will be an update to the GTX 1060 retaining the 6GB RAM buffer and 192-bit memory bus. Expect 1920 cores, 120 texture units, 48 render output units, 240 tensor cores and 30 ray tracing cores. Thanks to the utilisation of GDDR6 memory, the bandwidth should increase to up to 336GB/s, a big jump from 192GB/s on the GTX 1060.

If you look at the benchmark results published by Videocardz, you can see that it will go head-to-head with the GTX 1070 Ti. It is also expected to come with a similar price tag of $350 (Rs 25,000 approx) as the 1070 Ti. Essentially, the new RTX 2060 will not provide any added benefits over the GTX 1070 Ti apart from the Ray Tracing feature, but will that be worthy of an upgrade? We have our doubts.

By the looks of it, Nvidia could release the new RTX 2060 as soon as this month during CES (Consumer Electronics Show). Eventually, we are expecting manufacturers to launch their units by February or March.
