OnePlus 5 Gets Android 8.0 Oreo Beta Build; May Get 5T Like 'Face Unlock'

Android Oreo carries several upgrades over the Android Nougat. These upgrades include Auto-fill, Smart text selection, Picture-in-Picture, Customisable Notification Panel and a new Quick Settings design.

OnePlus 5 has started receiving its first Android 8.0 Oreo-based Open Beta build. Along with the Beta update, OnePlus has also started its Open Beta programme for the OnePlus 5. As per recent reports, leaks around the Android Oreo-based Open Beta 2 build for the OnePlus have also emerged which hint at a OnePlus 5T like Face Unlock feature for the OnePlus 5. While users can upgrade to the Beta build for the Android Oreo on their OnePlus 5 devices, the stable Oreo update for the smartphone will roll out in early 2018. Keep in mind though, the Beta build will carry some bugs that need to be fixed before the stable update for the Android Oreo is rolled out.

Android Oreo carries several upgrades over the Android Nougat. These upgrades include Auto-fill, Smart text selection, Picture-in-Picture, Customisable Notification Panel and a new Quick Settings design. Along with this, the Oreo Beta upgrade for the OnePlus 5 will also carry Parallel Apps, a new app folder design, Notification Dots for the OnePlus launcher and direct photo uploads to Shot on OnePlus, as OnePlus 5 exclusive upgrades. The upgrade will also come with Android security patch released in October.

Android Oreo Beta Build for the OnePlus 5 can be flashed on the devices after the device data is backed up as the process will get rid of any data stored on the smartphone. It is recommended to follow OnePlus’ official flashing guide to upgrade to the Oreo-based Beta build.
