Top 5 Controversies Surrounding OnePlus 5
We bring you a roundup of the top 5 controversies surrounding the OnePlus 5.

The recently launched OnePlus 5 in India has created a lot of buzz in the smartphone industry. The latest OnePlus flagship has scored high on the spec sheet and has impressed many with its firepower. The latest technology embedded into the smartphone has kept it in the news since a long time now. However, that is not the only reason why the OnePlus 5 has gained headlines. Here we bring you a roundup of the top 5 controversies that surrounded the OnePlus 5 throughout its launch.

1. Latest Processor Claims

Sure, OnePlus 5 made big claims to be the first smartphone in India to come with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor, yet it was beaten to the race hands down. The OnePlus 5 officially became the third smartphone in India to house the Snapdragon 835, with the Sony Xperia XZ Premium being the first on to do so while the HTC U11 became the second to finish the race. While OnePlus was busy making such claims on its social media handles, both the other smartphone companies quietly sneaked up to be the first.

2. Dual-Camera

One feature which was much hyped before the launch of OnePlus 5 was a dual camera setup on the smartphone and OnePlus certainly did not disappoint. The OnePlus 5 houses a dual primary camera with a 16-megapixel regular and a 20-megapixel telephoto lens, both of which combine to give a Bokeh effect. Yet multiple reports across the globe found the OnePlus 5's dual camera setup lacking and the topic is still being debated everywhere whether the dual-camera on the OnePlus 5 is up to the mark or not. As per our view on this, read our review here.

3. Cheating Benchmarks

OnePlus was reportedly caught cheating the Benchmark scores with its latest flagship – the OnePlus 5. A report by XDA developers mentioned that the OnePlus team had used performance boosters on the review units handed out to the media which could detect Benchmark applications and thrust the smartphone's performance to the max, thus showing industry-leading Benchmark scores. OnePlus was caught doing this previously as well with its last device – the OnePlus 3T.

4. A sneak peek?

OnePlus had displayed a teaser of the OnePlus 5 ahead of its launch during the India vs Pakistan final at the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. The notorious marketing campaigns by the company time and again managed to maintain the hype surrounding the phone. Yet, the word that went around about the OnePlus 5 smartphone was not limited to just the 'hype' and by the time the smartphone made its global launch, almost everything about the smartphone was already leaked. The suspense was so poorly maintained that the price announcement at the India launch of OnePlus 5 (which by the way, offered a prize money of Rs 1 crore to a contestant on the stage for guessing it right) was guessed by almost everyone present there. So much so for the KBC format the company tried to fancy.

5. Delhi Who?

Well, this is one blunder that the Chinese smartphone company just cannot talk its way out of. During its global launch on June 20, OnePlus displayed a map of the countries where it planned to hold pop-up events for the launch of OnePlus 5. The very same map mispelled the Indian capital 'Delhi' as 'Dehli'. Read the full story here.
