Gone are the days when one had to sell their kidney to buy a flagship smartphone in India. Apple and Samsung are known for making great devices, but they are usually priced in excess of Rs 45,000 in India. We Indians like economical, practical and powerful gadgets. There were two major Chinese companies, OnePlus and Xiaomi, that delivered a smartphone each a couple of years ago, with flagship features at an economical price. This year they were back with the OnePlus 3 and the Xiaomi Mi 5.

In 2016, the battle for a good smartphone under Rs 30,000 has again become intense with other companies also launching smartphones in this price bracket. This year itself has seen more than eight smartphones launched under Rs 30,000. We at News18.com give you our top five picks under Rs 30,000 that are able to deliver flagship smartphones with performance and style.

1. Asus Zenfone 3

Asus recently refreshed their smartphone lineup for this year with the Zenfone 3. An aesthetically pleasing device that strikes a balance between features and price, the Zenfone 3 delivers on performance and style.

The Zenfone 3 is also a smartphone that's available in two display variants at 5.2 and 5.5 inches. It's thin at 6.16 mm and comes with a powerful 64-bit, 2.0 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor with 3GB/4GB of RAM which delivers a great experience. The cameras - a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front, are also powerful. At Rs 21,999, Asus is offering an aesthetically pleasing device that is power-packed. From design, camera, to performance and device security, the phone gets the act right.

2. LeEco Le Max 2

The LeEco Le Max2 was the first phone to ditch the 3.5 mm audio jack and come with a USB Type-C audio. The CDLA audio is revolutionary for anyone who listens to music on their smartphone. Not only that, the Le Max 2 is priced at Rs 22,999 for the 32GB and 4GB RAM variant. The device comes with a massive 5.7-inch Quad-HD display with 1440x2560 pixels resolution and a pixel density of 515 ppi, that delivers great viewing angles and colours.

The phone is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 2.15 Ghz that delivers a lot of firepower for the phone. The 21-megapixel rear camera works like a dream in daylight conditions and the app interface is also easy to use. And to top it all, it comes with a massive 3100 mAh battery that easily lasts a day. The Le Max 2 is as powerful as the OnePlus 3 and what makes it better is the revolutionary CDLA technology and the LeLive service for video streaming.

3. Smartron t.phone

This phone takes the cake away from Motorola when it comes to providing a seamless stock android experience. Smartron is an Indian Internet of Things (IoT) startup that recently opened up the sale of its only smartphone in India - the t.phone priced at Rs 22,999.

The Smartron t.phone comes with a 2 GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 810 Processor that's backed by 4GB RAM. The t.phone also comes with 64GB internal storage that is expandable as it has a dual-SIM hybrid slot which is also 4G VoLTE compatible. To top it all, Smartron also gives users an unlimited cloud storage, for which all that the user has to do is create an account with Smartron. The Smartron t.phone is a device that's not fighting a specification war to lure customers.

4. Xiaomi Mi5

Xiaomi's flagship smartphone for this year was the Mi 5. The phone came with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset coupled with 3 GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel rear camera that came with optical image stabilisation and a 3000 mAh battery.

The device mainly scores on its looks, it's just the right size and weight. The Xiaomi Mi 5 is easy to hold and looks stunning with its glass and metal body. This is by far the best-designed smartphone from Xiaomi to come out till date. Priced at Rs 24,999 it's also one of the most expensive Xiaomi smartphones to come to India.

5. OnePlus 3

We asked a question in our headline: Is the OnePlus 3 still the king? The answer to that is yes. When it comes to a complete smartphone that has performance and affordability on its side, the OnePlus 3 is still the king of smartphones in India under Rs 30,000.

It's nearly clean Android experience, the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and a standard 6GB RAM makes it a clear winner among all the smartphones that are available in India in this price bracket. The OnePlus 3 delivers exceptional performance, a good metal and glass design and to top it all it's ergonomic. At Rs 27,999, this is the most expensive OnePlus device to ever come to India and among the lot, but every penny spent on this smartphone is worth the price.
