Vivo could launch a smartphone with a fingerprint sensor embedded under the display. According to a post by industry analyst Jiutang Pan on Weibo, a video shows a working prototype being unlocked through on-screen fingerprint scanner.

Pan says that the forthcoming phone from Vivo is slated to launch in the coming months.

Pan also added that Vivo will be the first smartphone OEM to bring a phone with this feature. The smartphone will launch exclusively in China, though.

The analyst also stated that Apple could be the first non-Chinese manufacturer to offer a similar feature on the upcoming iPhone 8.

Two Chinese smartphone makers including Xiaomi and Huawei are mulling to add in-display fingerprint scanners into their upcoming flagship smartphones.

It is pertinent to note that Huawei P11, which is rumoured to be unveiled early next year, will have an in-display fingerprint scanner into the smartphone’s display.

According to International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker for Q1 2017, Vivo surged to fifth position with a market share of 10. 5 percent.
