Women gamers outnumber men in gaming demographics
New Delhi: And they are not only playing social games. A new study has revealed that adult women not only are a large part of the gaming industry, but they also outnumber the male gamers.
Entertainment Software Association has revealed in its study that women over 18 made up 36 per cent of the gaming population followed by adult men at 35 per cent.
Surprisingly, teenage boys, who are usually stereotyped as the biggest gamers, are far behind the female populace at just 17 per cent of the gaming demographic.
The study further reveals that the number of female gamers aged 50 and above increased by 32 per cent from 2012 to 2013, The Daily Dot reports.
The average adult woman has been gaming for 13 years. They have been playing mostly casual computer games and not just social games like Candy Crush.
The audience for computer and video games is now an even 50-50 split between male and female genders.
