Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is all set to launch its latest device Redmi Y2 in India after launching it as Redmi S2 in China. Xiaomi had already sent out media invites for an event scheduled for today, where the company is expected to launch the successor to its Redmi Y series, alongside its latest OS update, the MIUI 10. The Xiaomi Redmi Y2 is expected to be a camera-centric smartphone with special focus on its selfie camera. What's more, the smartphone will be a budget offering by Xiaomi and will reportedly be priced at Rs 9,999.
An alleged tipster on Twitter has tweeted about the confirmation of the upcoming launch by Xiaomi, claiming that the Chinese smartphone maker will bring the Redmi Y2 to the Indian market as a rebranded Redmi S2. The tweet also mentions two storage variants of the smartphone, one with a 3GM RAM and 32GB internal storage and the other with a 4GB RAM and a 64GB storage. A successive tweet claims that the devices will be priced at Rs 9,999 and Rs 11,999 respectively. As per the tweets, the Redmi Y2 will be available in Dark Grey, Gold and Rose Gold colours.
Several reports in the past have indicated a 5.99-inch HD+ display on the smartphone with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC and might sport a dual camera setup at the back with a 12-megapixel combined to a 5-megapixel sensor.
In addition to the smartphone, Xiaomi also seems set to introduce the latest version of its MIUI operating system in India on June 7. The MIUI 10 was first showcased at Xiaomi's 8th-year anniversary ewvent last month alongside the launch of Xiaomi's new flagship smartphone, the Mi 8.
