After being on air for eight years, India's longest running TV show Balika Vadhu will telecast its final episode on 31st July.
The show began on Colors in 2008 with child actors Avika Gor and Avinash Mukherjee playing the lead characters Anandi and Jagya respectively. Over the years it dealt with several social issues including child marriage, widow remarriage, adult education and female foeticide.
Interestingly, the news of Balika Vadhu entering the Limca Book of World Records as TV's longest running show made headlines a few months back.
The actors seem to be shooting for the last leg of the show. Mahhi Vij, the current protagonist of the show was reported saying that she has not been informed officially about this. "It is unfortunate if 'Balika Vadhu' is coming to an end. I wish the show was promoted well as no one knew that it was airing at an early evening time slot".
While Ruslan Mumtaz, who plays the male lead in the show said, "This hasn't been announced yet. I was told that we would be informed at least two months before the show shuts. But if it is ending, then it is time to move on to another project."
According to reports dropping TRPs was one the reason behind the Channel's decision to put an end to this show.
Well, it's time to bid adieu to a show that made Avika Gor, Pratyusha Banerjee and Toral Rasputra a household name and brought Rajasthan and it's culture into a different light.
