'MasterChef India 4' finale: About star power, humour and not bursting into tears
As expected the show, which kicked off amidst huge hype, ended with a bang and not a whimper.

Since the 'MasterChef India' series premiered, the reality show has conquered TV ratings. And the show's fourth season, despite featuring pure vegetarian food items, was successful at sustaining viewers' interest and emerged one the most watched TV show this year.

As expected the show, which kicked off amidst huge hype, ended with a bang and not a whimper. And what was interesting to watch was how the top 3 finalists - Nikita Gandhi, Neha Shah and Bhakti Arora, and 3 judges - Sanjeev Kapoor, Ranveer Brar and Vikas Khanna - outdid themselves with their performances.

The show began with Raghu Ram, still known for being an intolerant and short-tempered judge of 'MTV Roadies', giving a piece of his mind to aspiring chefs. His comments "Tu hai kya cheez?", "Tune soch kaise liya ki tujhe mai apne show mei le lunga?", "Yeh Chicken kum paka hua hai!" reminded us of the same deadlier Raghu who'd use expletives liberally for 'Roadies' contestants for lacking courage and guts to prove their mettle. Just when we thought Raghu was back on the small screen with a vengeance, we were told it was just a part of his dream, and that he was roped in by the show's makers to host the grand finale.

After a funny opening involving Vikas strangulating Raghu, Sanjeev and Ranveer attacking him, the 'Roadies' judge struck a humorous note by saying, "Shows nahi hai aaj kal mere paas. Toh socha ki yahan pe try kar leta hoon". Next Raghu welcomed the viewers with 'adab' tehzeeb' and 'shrishtachar' to the grand finale. After the viewers were given a memorable glimpses of the 11-week long show, it was only fitting that chef Sanjeev declared that 'MasterChef India 4' despite not showing even a single non-veg dish managed to make a mark. While the top 3 contestants who had won viewers' hearts with their culinary skills, stepped out of their comfort zones and showed them how good they are when it comes to staging a dance performance. We also saw a different side to the judges. They turned singers, dancers, all in all complete entertainers.

To ensure the finale was grand in terms of star power, humour and suspense, the makers of 'MasterChef India 4' also launched the channel's next big show 'Nach Baliye 7'. Since the upcoming season of the dance-based reality show will see the participation of 'MasterChef India 3' winner Ripu with his wife, it was also a way to tell the viewers about the opportunities one gets on winning 'MasterChef India'. While it was interesting to watch Gurmeet Choudhary put up a stunning act with wife Debolina, the viewers were a bit confused to see Ripu perform.

Would the viewers be interested in seeing chefs share the dance floor with actors? Is there any comparison between the two? Wouldn't one look forward to a food show by the winners rather than making a not-so-significant stint in 'Nach Baliye'?

While these questions bothered many, the act by standup comedian Sidharth gave a few a valid reason to enjoy the finale. He could leave an impact by playing 'Mausi', his popular role on 'Comedy Classes'. His comic timing, pelvic thrusts, chemistry with Raghu and funny one-liners infused the much-needed humour. But what turned out to be even more hilarious was the manner in which Preity Zinta, Marzi Pestonji reacted when Chetan Bhagat was asked to validate his selection as a co-judge judge of 'Nach Baliye 7'. While Preity and Marzi looked a bit confused as they said 'Humko nahi maloom' when asked about Chetan being a co-judge, the popular writer was quick to give Raghu a taste of his medicine. 'Aaj MasterChef Finale kya sweet dish special hai jo Raghu bhi sweet ho gaya hai? Tum smile bhi karte ho? Aur normal baat bhi karte ho?' he asked to explain Raghu's unexpected transition.

While Vikas Khanna was quite evidently taken aback on being putting to the ultimate challenge in the finale to perform with Preity, renowned chef Ranveer, who had always demanded quality of food, felt the intensity of the task he had put up to Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan when he had to gulp down gol-gapas they made.

But what really helped the show's finale stand out was the manner in which the contestants who couldn't win the title accepted their defeat. While winner Nikita Gandhi, had every reason to be happy, neither Bhakti Arora nor Neha Shah broke in to tears. The two were happy to make it to the finals, but didn't use tears as a farce for sympathy. They had the courage to accept the reality and take defeat in their stride for which they will always be respected. And so will 'MasterChef India'!
