India is celebrating the 80th birth anniversary of Arati Saha, who became the first Asian woman Swimmer who swam across the English Channel.
She was a fighter and had started tasting success at a very young age. Born on September 24, 1940, in Kolkata, she won her first gold medal for swimming at the age of five.
At the 1952 Summer Olympics, Arati Saha represented India along with compatriot Dolly Nazir. She was one of the four women participants and the youngest member of the Indian contingent.
