Khattar, who is set to become Haryana CM, thanked voters for giving mandate to BJP for forming the government in the state.
The decision to elect Khattar was taken after a meeting of the BJP MLAs and poll observers including senior leader Venkakiah Naidu in Chandigarh.
The final decision will be taken by the legislative party which meets on Tuesday.
