The country's second Centaur-class vessel, it served 29 years under the Indian flag, preceded by 27 years with the Royal Navy, earning a Guinness World Record as the oldest serving warship on earth. Currently, Viraat, India’s largest, decommissioned, aircraft carrier warship, is docked at Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. After in-principle acceptance that the warship will be handed over to the Government of Maharashtra, the Ministry of Defence now awaits a firm proposal by the State government. The ship hasn’t yet been handed over to Maharashtra. Condition of the ship isn’t great as of now. Navy spends from its own pockets to maintain her. INS Viraat in the harbour - all dressed up.
