After spending three days in jail, Anna Hazare finally walks out of Tihar Jail to continue his fast at Ramlila Maidan where a massive crowd greets him.
While supporters chanted slogans, politicians huddled, singers and actors enthralled the crowds at Ramlila Maidan, the 74-year-old Anna Hazare went on fasting for 11 long days. His is the often smiling, sometimes pensive face of a crusade.
He has lost almost 7 kg but Hazare refuses to call off his fast on Day 9. But the strain shows on his face and he is mostly resting.
On day one, a smiling Hazare greets supporters as he is hauled off to the Tihar Jail just hours before he was to launch his hunger strike in the national capital to press for a stronger anti-graft legislation.
Hazare addresses supporters at Ramlila Maidan and asks them to show restraint if he is picked up by the police. Though doctors say his condition is stable, he rests on stage, occasionally waving at supporters.
Day two was spent inside Tihar as his supporters thronged the outside of the jail to protest his detention.
On day 11, a visibly weak and mostly silent Hazare spent the day lying down as worried supporters and the government tried to reach a consensus on the Parliament debate on the various versions of the Lokpal bills. He wiped his eyes occasionally and weakly sat up to gulp down some water from time to time.
Day 3 was spent inside Tihar as Hazare continued his fast and refused to leave the jail premises as authorities tried to reach an agreement on his protest venue and duration.
Pressure mounts on the UPA as supporters for Anna Hazare keep the momentum going at Ramlila Maidan. Hazare sets Parliament an August 30 deadline for passage of the Lokpal Bill saying he will not relent till that happens. He is in high spirit.
An estimated 10,000 people pack the spacious Ramlila ground. Hazare addressed crowds in full steam and is still energetic despite six days of fasting.
Day 10 held some hope of a breakthrough. Hazare was seen addressing his supporters even as his fast entered 10 days and his health deteriorated.
As Anna Hazare's fast continues, Government ropes in spiritual guru Bhaiyyu Maharaj and top Maharashtra bureaucrat UC Sarangi for back-channel talks with Team Anna. Hazare loses 5 kg in past 7 days of his hunger strike and his close aides are worried.
