As Bollywood gears up to enter the second half of 2013, we give you an insight into the most memorable and striking performances of actors in the first six months.
So what if he doesn't comes as the quintessential Bollywood hero? Dhanush was a clear winner in Anan L Rai's 'Raanjhanaa'. Dhanush, a National award winning actor, wows movie buffs with his unconstrained act. Even though he was offered several Bollywood offers in the last 5 years, he took long to give his nod, for he could only relate to Kunadan. 'Raanjhanaa' tells the story of a Hindu boy who falls for a Muslim girl and can go to any lengths to win her over.
If Ayan Mukerji's 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' could sustain viewers' interest for months, that's essentially because of Ranbir Kapoor. If Ranbir was imposing in playing the wanderer and happy while flaunting his ability to flirt, he could even leave viewers' eyes moist in emotional scenes.
'Kai Po Che' has certainly been one of the best movies of 2013. Based on Chetan Bhagat's novel, the film revolved around the lives of 3 friends. While Ishan (Sushant Singh) won everybody's heart by playing a hot-headed slacker, Omi (Amit Sadh) proved he was the perfect choice to play a politician and Govind (Rajkumar Yadav) was absolutely real while portraying a business-minded individual. The film was a hit, courtesy actors' contribution.
Rani Mukerjee looked stunning in 'Bombay Talkies'. Rani, who teamed up with Karan Johar after a long time, was lauded for her efforts in the film. She played a happily married woman whose life undergoes a change when she meets a young intern at her workplace. The pairing of Randeep Hooda and Rani Mukerji was equally interesting.
Neeraj Pandey's 'Special 26' revolves around the story of four men and how they carry out a robbery at a jewellery shop. The oh-so-believable performances of Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher made the film worth a watch. The success of 'Special 26' has put Akshay Kumar in the top league.
Konkona Sen, who has proved her acting prowess by bagging national award twice, needs no introduction. Even though the film didn't manage to be as intriguing as the viewers had expected, Konkona's powerful yet effortless acting played a key role in building up intrigue in the film.
Deepika Padukone managed to make bespectacled look interesting. In 'Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani', she essayed the role of a girl-next-door Naina Talwar, and called chasmish by Ranbir Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor. Her chemistry with ex-beau Ranbir Kapoor was one the key reasons for the film to become an instant hit with the viewers.
'Bombay Talkies' is a blend of four short films by Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Banerjee. While the film made buzz for its unique concept, it was also discussed at great lengths for Nawazuddin Siddiqui's acting skills. Nawazuddin, who played an unsuccessful entrepreneur who is looking for a job in Mumbai, was terrific.
Sonam plays an instrumental role in complementing Dhanush (Kundan) in Anand L Rai's 'Raanjhanaa'. Sonam, who hasn't had a hit film to her credit, managed to win one 'Raanjhanaa'. Sonam was lauded for doing some of her attention-grabbing work in this film. Her transition from a Banaras-based naive girl to an activist was impressive.
