Actress Deepti Naval who came to pay her last respects to Mukherjee said, “He was the first person in the film industry to encourage me and asked me to stick around.”
Veteran actor A K Hangal who worked with Mukherjee in films like Bawarchi and Abhimaan said, “His ideology and my ideology was the same. And he was the person who brought me to films.”
The film fraternity came together to pay their last respects to Hrishikesh Mukherjee, the filmmaker who gave a face to Indian middle class cinema. Mukherjee's last rites were performed at Mumbai's Swarnarekhamango funeral ground in Madhukar.

Jaya Bachchan who acted in several films by Mukherjee said, “He was like a father to me and I feel I have lost my father again. I feel awful and alone at the moment.”
Lyricist Gulzar, who had assisted Hrishida as a director on many films said, “He used to tell, teach us despite the age difference. I used to call him masterji but he always treated us like a friend.”

Director Subash Ghai who was present at the funeral said, “He was a great editor and a great director. He will always be remembered in the history of great filmmakers of India.”
