Ileana D’Cruz, the sizzling south Indian actress is now also the highest paid in her industry after she signed on to feature opposite Allu Arjun in an upcoming movie for Rs 2 crore. By Durba Ghosh
Ileana went on to appear in commercially successful ventures including 'Pokiri', 'Jalsa' and 'Kick', establishing herself as one of Telugu cinema's leading actresses.
The southern sensation, started her career as a model and appeared in an advertisement endorsing the brand 'Fair and Lovely'. She was recognised by Y V Choudhary and made her debut in a Telegu film, 'Devadasa'. She won a Filmfare award for her portrayal of Bhanumati's role.
Ileana also made her debut in Tamil films in 2006. She featured in a Tamil film, 'Kedi' opposite Ravi Krishna, son of mega producer AM Ratnam of Sri Surya movies banner. The film did not do well at the box-office but it gave her exposure in the Tamil industry.
Ileana's first film, 'Devadasu' was an instant hit. Her next film, 'Pokkiri' opposite Tollywood heartthrob Mahesh Babu broke all box office records and went on to become the biggest hit in Tollywood with a gross income of over Rs 66 crore.
Ileana charged Rs 70 lakh per within two years in the Industry. She now charges about Rs 2 crore per film after delivering a number of hits opposite leading Tollywood actors. But, still way behind Bollywood A-listers including Kareena Kapoor, who was paid about Rs 7 crore for 'Golmaal 3'.
Ileana will have back-to-back releases in the coming weeks, including 'Shakthi', where she%u2019s paired opposite NTR Junior, she also has Nenu Naa Rakshasi opposite Rana Daggubati releasing in the first week of April.
Ileana was born on August 19, 1987 in Mumbai. Her family later moved to Goa. She took up modeling very early in life and was later applauded for her sensitive portrayal of a woman who fights against her father for her love in the movie 'Devadasu'.
