Before Sholay, Amitabh Bachchan was a part of another great song. It was Pran's 'Yaari Hai Iman Mera Yaar Meri Zindagi' in 'Zanjeer'. The film was a major hit and helped Bachchan boost his sagging career. Not to forget that this qawwali on friendship added to the film's memorable status.
[caption id="attachment_772457"] Farhan Akhtar's ultimate film on friendship and love depicted beautifully through its title song 'Dil Chahta Hai'. Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna are on a road trip to Goa in the song. [/caption]
The song and album which catapulted Shantanu Mukherjee aka Shaan to nationwide fame, 'Tanha Dil' remains etched in our hearts forever.
Pakistani singer Ali Haider's 'Purani Jeans' first released in the year 1993. It went on to become a college anthem in India and Pakistan. Ali Haider later gave a couple of other hits, but his career had to be resurrected with his first major hit. So, Purani Jeans was launched again in a remix version in 2006. People lapped up the song again. It still is one of the best songs dedicated to friendship.
This KK number was used in Nagesh Kukunoor's coming-of-age film 'Rockford'. It's become something of a cult song, in the league of Yeh Dosti and Purani Jeans.
This Mahesh Bhatt film shows deep friendship between two men, played by Sanjay Dutt and Kumar Gaurav. The bonding continues even when one of them takes to the underworld (Sanjay Dutt, of course). This particular song happens when Sanjay Dutt is leaving abroad for work.
Amitabh Bachchan on stage again, this time singing for his girl as well as his pal, played by Neetu Singh and Amjad Khan respectively.
The lyrics say it all - Bane chahe dushman sara zamana, salamat rahe dostana hamara. But no Sholay style bike adventures on the road here. Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha's characters sing this on stage to a packed audience. It is another thing that the song's words are not true in real life – it's no secret that Bachchan and Singh don't get along.

This is again a friendship cum love kind of song. Two guys, Sameer (Abhishek Bachchan) and Kunal (John Abraham) pretend to be gay to move in with Neha (Priyanka Chopra), as both men have a thing for her. The song shows the three bonding over daily chores or on the beach, with the boys finding it hard to resist the sizzling hot Neha in a golden bikini.
Lesser known actors Sushil Kumar and Sudhir Kumar starred in this story on friendship and survival in hardship (one is blind, the other is crippled). One friend sings Mera to jo bhi kadam while remembering the other. This classic Rajshri Pictures film had a number of melodious songs by composer duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal, including Chahunga main tujhe sanjh savere, for which Mohammad Rafi won an award. The other memorable number from the film is Rahi manwa dukh ki chinta.
Sholay completes 35 years in August, a month which also celebrates Friendship Day. Yeh Dosti is by far the best melody dedicated to friendship. Rendered by Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey, it was composed by R.D. Burman and written by Anand Bakshi. It's a fun song with Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) and Veeru (Dharmendra) on their unforgettable bike and sidecar. Let's look at some other memorable songs dedicated to this amazing relationship.
