Baghdad Receives Snowfall For the Second Time in This Century

 Iraq's capital Baghdad awoke to see a thin layer of fresh snow, an extremely rare phenomenon for one of the world's hottest countries, and delighted residents declared it an omen of peace. The people of Baghdad are more used to heat than cold. The 2008 snowfall in Baghdad was seen for the first time in about a century. Although Baghdad sometimes sees hail and sleet, the snow has never been witnessed in living memory.
