With President Donald Trump, and by extension Hollywood A-listers, staying away, the focus during the White House Correspondents' Dinner 2017 were eminent journalists, and Indian-American comedian Hasan Minhaj. Minhaj, who plays a correspondent on Comedy Central's The Daily Show program, was tasked with providing the laughs and the serious event. And he didn't disappoint. Here are his memorable lines from the event. (Image: Reuters)
OPENING LINE: Welcome to the series finale of the White House correspondents' dinner.
SETTING THE STAGE: Only in America can a first-generation, Indian-American Muslim kid get on this stage and make fun of the president. (Image: Reuters)
ON BEING A MINORITY: You (journalists) can't make any mistakes, because when one of you messes up he (President Donald Trump) blames your entire group.... And now you know what it feels like to be a minority. (Image: Reuters)
ON HIS ACT: No one one wanted to do this so of course it falls in the hands of an immigrant. That's how it always goes down. (Image: Reuters)
ON TRUMP'S ABSENCE: We've got to address the elephant that's not in the room. (Image: Reuters)
ON TRUMP-PUTIN EQUATION: The leader of our country is not here. And that's because he lives in Moscow. It's a very long flight. As for the other guy, I think he's in Pennsylvania because he can't take a joke. (Image: Reuters)
ON TRUMP'S TWEETS: In four hours, Donald Trump will be tweeting about how bad Nicki Minaj bombed at this dinner. (Image: Reuters)
TRUMP'S GOLF PLAY: Every time Trump goes golfing, the headline should read, 'Trump golfing. Apocalypse delayed. Take the W'. (Image: Reuters)
ON TRUMP ADMINISTRATION: The news coming out of the White House is so stressful, I've been watching 'House of Cards' just to relax.
ON MOTHER OF ALL BOMBS: Historically, the president usually performs at the correspondents' dinner, but I think I speak for all of us when I say he's done far too much bombing this month.
