Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, whose Janata Dal (United) won the elections with BJP as part of National Democratic Alliance (NDA), on Thursday said voters have given the alliance the mandate and it will form the government. Kumar said he has made no claim to chief ministership and that the decision was that of the alliance. Kumar admitted that Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) had damaged the JD(U)'s prospects on many seats, but to a question of whether the JD(U) had demanded that the BJP sever all ties with the LJP, Kumar said it would be the BJP's decision.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday said the Indian economy is witnessing a strong recovery after a long and strict lockdown. Addressing a press conference to announce more stimulus measures to boost growth, she said macro-economic indicators are pointing towards recovery. Giving out details of recovery, she said composite purchasing managers index (PMI) rose to 58.9 per cent in October versus 54.6 per cent in the previous month, registering strongest increase in output in close to nine years.

The central government on November 9 issued notice to Twitter for showing Leh as part of Jammu and Kashmir instead of the Union Territory of Ladakh. According to news agency ANI, the notice, issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has directed the microblogging site to explain in five days why legal action should not be taken against it for disrespecting India's territorial integrity.

Attorney General KK Venugopal on Thursday granted consent for initiation of contempt proceedings against stand-up comic artist Kunal Kamra for his tweets allegedly criticising the Supreme Court. "The tweets which I am extracting below are not only in bad taste but clearly cross the line between humour and contempt of the court," said Venugopal in his letter to one of the applicants who had sought consent of the top law officer for initiation of contempt proceedings against Kamra.
Actor Asif Basra Found Dead At Dharamshala House, Investigation On
Actor Asif Basra died on Thursday in McLeodganj in Himachal Pradesh. He was 53. The actor was reportedly found hanging at a rented complex in Himachal Pradesh. While the cause of death is not known yet, it is suspected to be a case of suicide. A forensic team has reached the spot and an investigation in the matter is underway. It is being reported that the actor had a property on lease for the past five-six years and used to visit the place regularly.
