India launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014 as a pan-India initiative to improve cleanliness and sanitation. Inspired by Gandhiji's vision, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan aims to achieve an improved sanitation system, waste management, and reduction of our environmental footprint. Open Defecation Free (ODF) initiatives, public and community toilet construction, and waste management are among SBM-Urban's goals.

This year's Swachh Surveskshan is the world's largest annual cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation survey commissioned by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and conducted by the Quality Council of India (QCI). The program encouraged citizen participation, spreading awareness and fostering healthy inter-city competition among participating cities. By launching several initiatives, such as the Swachhata App, for civic grievances, the survey has seen exponential growth in participants and scale over the past year, along with a web-based platform- Swachh Manch, brings stakeholders together to create events, network, and upload photos of events and initiatives, a ‘Bring plastic waste and get a delicious full free meal’, platforms such as Eco Marts to sell products made from recyclable waste.

A Government e-Marketplace, or GeM, is a platform for buying and selling goods and services between government agencies. It was created in only five months to increase transparency, efficiency, speed, as well as inclusion in the public procurement process. The GeM portal now allows sellers, manufacturers, and OEMs to sell directly to the government. GeM Registration involves multiple steps, including an assessment of vendors. In the GeM portal, it is part of the vendor validation process. A vendor is evaluated in order to determine the quality of its products and services. This increases the reputation and authenticity of the merchant and vendor. Quality Council of India (QCI) conducts vendor assessments of all vendors on GeM.

At present, GeM has over 25 lakh Sellers & Service Providers, including over 7 lakh MSE Sellers & Service Providers, with more than 52 lakh products in over 16000 product categories and over 190 service categories.

There are several accolades in the name of the Government eMarketplace as well, including the World Bank's South Asia Procurement Innovation Award in 2016, Digital India Platinum Award from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in 2018 for 'Exemplary Online Service', the Hindu Business Line Changemaker Award for Digital Transformation in March 2020 and the UN's WSIS Prize nomination.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is a ministry of the Government of India, that is the apex body for formulation and administration of the rules, regulations and laws relating to road transport, transport research and in also to increase the mobility and efficiency of the road transport system in India.

The Quality Council of India prepared a robust and objective assessment framework for Morth by developing a performance-based rating mechanism for key vendors engaged in the highway development process. Customized rating frameworks were developed according to different modes of implementation and stage of progress. The frameworks provide a holistic assessment of vendor performance and evaluate vendors on parameters like quality of construction, timely submission of progress reports and audit reports, adherence to guidelines and IRC codes, compliance with industry standards and specifications and overall process management. QCI also designed a framework for incorporating performance rating in future bids to ensure high quality output and timely completion of projects.

Some noteworthy accomplishments by MoRTH include the record-breaking milestone of constructing 37 kilometres highways per day in year 2020-21 as well as the length of National Highways gone up by 50% in last 7 years.
