Mukesh Ambani's new abode worth $2 billion

May 01, 2008 06:13 PM IST Business Business

New Delhi: Reliance Industries' Chairman Mukesh Ambani will move into the world's largest and most expensive home a 27-storey skyscraper in downtown Mumbai - that's close to $2 billion.

The residence has been named Antilla and no two floors in the home are alike.

The living quarters begin at a lobby with nine elevators. Down the stairways is a large ballroom with its ceiling covered in crystal chandeliers while the top floors offer panoramic views of the Arabian Sea.

Like other families the Ambanis wanted to build a custom home.

The Ambani's have consulted Architecture firms in Los Angeles and Dallas to design their grand home and it is likely to cost more than a hotel or high-rise of similar size because of its custom design.

Plans were then drawn up for what will be the world's largest and most expensive home - a 27-story skyscraper in downtown Mumbai with a cost nearing $2 billion.

The architects and designers are creating as they go, altering floor plans, design elements and concepts as the building is constructed.

In another development Ambani on Thursday said that India faces two major challenges educating and imparting training to young people to enable them to effectively participate in the fast growing economy of the country.

After receiving award from the American India Federation (AIF) for his economic and philanthropic commitment to the country last night, Ambani called for encouragement to the organisation, which work to help young people achieve their dreams through projects that focus on education and developing skills.

This is important, he added, as millions would be joining the work force in years to come.
