Agra: Two people were killed and three critically injured when an explosion took place in a two-storeyed house in Baluganj area in Agra, with the police suspecting it was caused by a cylinder.
An explosion took place in the house of Baljit Singh around Saturday night. The whole structure came down and Singh, his wife Indrajeet, and three daughters were buried in the debris, an official of the Rakabganj Police Station said.
An eye-witness said, We heard a huge explosion. We helped rescue people."
Singh's two daughters, Simran (22) and Nikki (19), died on the spot, while neighbours rushed to the rescue of Singh, his wife, and daughter Neha and pulled them out, police said.
Early indications suggest it could have been a gas cylinder blast, but it can only be confirmed after investigation into the incident is completed, police said.
Several houses in the vicinity were damaged in the blast.
Tourists in a nearby hotel rushed out of the hotel for safety. Police rescue team, fire brigade, forensic and bomb disposal squad have reached the spot.
The site of explosion is close to the tourist complex and the Mall road in the Cantonment area.
