Ahmedabad: Gujarat Police officials are claiming they provided the vital tip-off to Delhi Police about the terrorists holed up in Jamia Nagar area of south Delhi.

A Special Cell of Delhi Police gunned down two terrorists and arrested one more during an encounter in Jamia Nagar on Friday. Two others terrorists, however, managed to escape.

Police officials say they got the information while raiding a house in Ahmedabad where the alleged terror mastermind Atiq alias Bashir stayed earlier.

Police say Qayamuddin Kapadia and Tauqeer, accused in the Ahmedabad blasts case, stayed in Ahmedabad to manufacture bombs.

They recovered a 9 volt battery, a clock timer, various types of tiffin carriers and polythene bags used for wrapping bombs. They also found out that there were frequent calls made to Ahmedabad from a PCO in Jamia Nagar, details of which were passed on to the Delhi Police.

About five phone numbers were zeroed in out of which one number was from a PCO in the Jamia Nagar area from where frequent calls used to come to Ahmedabad.

The house where Qayamuddin and Tauqeer lived, belongs to a nurse in Ahmedabad and it was rented out to a group of people for Rs 5000.

During the raid, police also recovered a Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation diary, from which the map of Ahmedabad was missing. The raid was conducted at 1600 hrs IST on Friday evening and continued till late night.
