New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh on Wednesday stood his ground on the Air India strike. He snubbed striking pilots, saying they will have to reapply for a job as the airline will hire new pilots. 
 
It has been 30 days since the Air India pilot strike began forcing the airline to suspend key international operations. 
 
Meanwhile, in Delhi and Mumbai, pilots of the erstwhile Indian Pilots Guild took out yet another protest march, but it was now about getting their jobs back. 
 
"We want that we should be taken back into our jobs. We do not want to get very aggressive," said Captain Vipin Macker, joint secretary, Indian Pilots Guild. 
 
However, the message from the Civil Aviation Ministry is tough. The ministry has said that Air India will hire nearly 100 pilots, both expats and domestic, to fill vacancies for flight commanders and crew. 
 
"As far as I am concerned, the strike is almost over…Air India has decided to hire pilots from domestic and international markets," said Ajit Singh. 
 
Not only is Air India confident about restoring its international operations, it is also expanding its network. The message is clear – the only way the pilots can now save their jobs is to call off the agitation unconditionally and resume work, as the national carrier is prepared to move forward with or without them.
