Mining mafia not behind MP IPS officer's death: CBI

Jun 06, 2012 12:55 PM IST India India

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday filed a chargesheet into the killing of Madhya Pradesh IPS officer Narendra Kumar, claiming the death occurred due to negligence and there was no hand of mining mafia.

The CBI said it was a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. "Manoj Gurjar, driver of the vehicle had nothing to do with any kind of mining mafia. He was taking the stones for his own personal use," the CBI chargesheet says.

Sub-divisional police officer Narendra Kumar was killed when he was trying to stop the tractor loaded with mined stones.

Gurjar, who was later arrested by Morena police, however, pleaded innocence before the court, saying the incident in which IPS officer got killed was an accident and not pre-planned murder.

Kumar's father, Keshav Dev, had alleged that his son was murdered as he was taking tough action against illegal mining mafias.
