Guwahati: Karbi Anglong SP and his Personal Security Officer (PSO) who were killed in an encounter with the KPLT operatives were cremated on Sunday morning in Guwahati. MoS, Home Ministry, Kiren Rijiju attended the cremation.

The slain policeman's son has demanded CBI probe into his father's death saying that his demand for additional forces in the Karbi Anglong region was not paid heed to by the authorities. The demand for a CBI probe was backed by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi too.

"I Just need CBI inquiry.....my father asked for additional forces but it was not provided, want to know what happened to my father," said the SP's son.

CM Gogoi, meanwhile, assured that the culprits would be brought to books. He said, "Culprits will be punished, I don't mind a CBI probe."

A Superintendent of Police and his PSO was killed in an encounter with the operatives of KPLT in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Thursday evening.

SP Nitya Nanda Goswami of Hamren police district was leading an operation against the insurgent outfit in remote Rongthang forest area where they came face to face with a large group of the ultras who opened fire on them on Thursday night.
