Bangalore man plans a long walk to lose weight

Bangalore: Entrepreneur Chris Thomas has decided to lose weight in 2010 by walking from Bangalore to Chennai.

"On this New Year, I have taken a resolution to walk from Bangalore to Chennai covering 350 kilometres. I will be covering 50 kilometres a day. In seven days I plan to reach Chennai," says Thomas.

Thomas once weighed 120 kilos and lost nearly 30 kg just by walking.

Now by walking from Bangalore to Chennai, Thomas wants to spread awareness about the benefits of walking.

He has even started a movement called the Fit India Movement to get more youngsters to take to walking to stay healthy.

"Taking a New Year resolution is easy but sustaining it throughout for 365 days is tough. For that you have to educate your mind what is willpower. How to motivate and then get into physical exercise," he says.

Motivating Thomas is Dr Devi Shetty from Narayana Hridayalaya.

"Younger generation should be told that if they don't remain fit they will land in trouble because youth always take youth for granted," says Dr Devi Shetty, founder, Narayana Hridayalaya.
